A-tumblin’ we will go

I’ve been friends with Anne since I was 15. I’m almost 31 now, so I’ve known her for over half of my life, and I cherish her friendship every day. She’s studying in the Netherlands this fall, and she started a Tumblr to keep her loved ones posted on her semester abroad. She writes shorter posts highlighted with photos, meant to be small snippets of her daily life in Groningen and other places in Europe where her travels take her. I adore the concept. I get especially excited when she posts pictures of everyday objects like her yogurt container or a bouquet of flowers she bought at the market. What I love most is that I can hear her voice when I read her blog, like I’m there with her and she’s recounting these stories to me over a cup of tea and a pack of cookies. For someone I’m so close to but only see once or twice a year, this means the world to me.

(Thankfully, A is going back home – to Seattle – in late December. It is an understatement when I say that I am THRILLED to be her neighbor very soon. Ahhhh!)

I’ve admired her blog for a few months now and have wanted to adapt a similar style for my own little place on the internets. Moving day is in less than two weeks so I think now is as good a time as any to change it up. I am switching to the Tumblr format, for now. What this means: hopefully more frequent posts on a daily basis, more photos, more peeks into my daily life. I have never been a very open person but I’d like to make an effort to change that. I can’t say that my photos will be very good (lots of fake retro ones taken on my phone – I love them, okay?!?!), and I’m super out of practice with my writing skillz these days – but I’ll try.

Hope to see you there.
